Accredited training specialist, the International School of Linguists Limited (ISL) is the first such company to secure PAIT approval for its police CPD training courses.
Through the Police Approved Interpreters and Translators (PAIT) scheme, interpreters and translators who hold the required vetting, qualifications and experience will be approved by Leicestershire Police to undertake police assignments for all police forces across the country.
ISL work with a network of skilled and experienced assessors and tutors to provide specialist training and testing to help linguists achieve qualifications and continuous professional development. ISL are now able to offer PAIT approved CPD training courses to linguists which will help them to increase their knowledge of tens of common offences such as driving offences, harassment, and theft. It will also give less experienced linguists the opportunity to receive a useful introduction to police interpreting.
Commenting on the initiative, Mark Lewis, National Police Contract Manager for Language Services said: “I believe the regular updating of knowledge by interpreters who undertake police assignments is crucial to their ability to assist police with investigations where any person interacting with the police does not have a good command of the English language or is deaf. Legislation and procedures change from time to time, and it is important that the police ensure interpreters are kept up to date with those changes.”
“CPD and on-line training providers such as ISL are now being supported by the PAIT Scheme to ensure suitable awareness and CPD material is provided with PAIT approval. In this way, the PAIT Interpreter may be assured that those courses, CPD events and online training packages approved by the PAIT Scheme, contain suitable material for assisting their understanding of police specific terms, legislation and procedures. They have been developed by trainers with specific police expertise.”
